This past week I gave a talk for The Honors College at The University of Missouri. The theme this fall was The Art and Science of Living, and they asked me to give a guest lecture about the nature of the body in the context of my work. I chose to focus on a number of artists who have shaped my ideas about the meaning of the body. – from Anne Harris and Robin F. Williams to Kathe Kollwitz and Charles White.

I WATCHED THE WHOLE LECTURE AND I MUST AGREE THE IMAGES ARE FANTASTIC. BEING AN ART PERSON FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS I AM EMBARRASSED TO SAY I RECOGNIZED ALMOST NONE OF THE NAMES. MATT MIGHT SAY “STUDY MORE” BUT IT IS NOT AS I DO. HE SHOULD TEACH ART HISTORY, BUT THERE IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT “LATTER” TO CLIMB TO GET TO THERE. I LOVE EVERYTHING HE’S EVER DONE. ALL BUT THE BAD ONES YOU COULD HOLD IN ONE HAND. SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND!
