Ballou and Spear at Perlow-Stevens Gallery

David Spear and I will be having a joint exhibition entitled “Concerning Composing” from September 1 through September 28th at Perlow-Stevens Gallery here in Columbia, MO. I hope to see a ton of people there. You can search this blog for more examples from the works I am submitting. Here’s one of them.

We’ve put out a catalog for the show. You can take a look here. It features statements by both of us and a selection of the work. Check it out.

Lamentations 3

lamentations 3 verse 5

i’m going to be starting a series of prints devoted to the biblical book of lamentations, chapter 3, verses 1 through 20. i’ve wanted to make a specifically biblical body of work over the last few years. i wanted an unconventional text and this is it. check it out here.

the final project will be entirely prints, with a portion of the edition bound together as artist books.

Classic Studio Shot #1

me, in the studio 2004

Me in my studio during grad school – Indiana University – sometime early in 2004. Upper right corner – my Lionel Richie “Patron Saint of Painting” icon, collaboration between Maximillian Hernandez and my collage. It’s hanging in my current studio, too.

“VOLUME, NOT FEATURES” …words to live by.

Diebenkorn in 2010

Diebenkorn Ocean Park #31

A traveling survey exhibition of Richard Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park Series is slated to begin in 2010. Read more about it HERE, and see Tyler Green’s posting about the show HERE. Personally, I can’t wait.

“My freedom will be so much the greater and more meaningful, the more narrowly I limit my field of action and the more I surround myself with obstacles.” – Richard Diebenkorn

UPDATE: I know this post gets quite a few hits and that means that people are seeking information about the Diebenkorn show. As far as I know that show has been pushed back indefinitely. You can see more info about the postponement here.
